Hunting Flies poster

In Andrzej Wajda's satiric comedy from 1969, Wlodek is a shy man who's afraid of his mother as well as his wife. However, upon meeting Irena, his life takes a new turn. One of the key films of the Polish film renaissance, this film explores the seeming world of emancipated women and emasculated men in communist Poland. A librarian shares his life and home with his domineering wife. He has an affair with a beautiful intellectual, who wears fly-shaped glasses. She tries to become the woman behind the great artist. It's a film dedicated to the women of Poland, even as it critiques the relations between the sexes. 104 min | DCP | Polish with English subtitles | Rated UR | Part of A Cinema Named Desire: The Films of Andrzej Wajda
